Pet Services

 Our approach

Preventative Medicine and Internal Medicine are the foundation for Veterinary Care.

At Beaverton Crossroads, we believe your pet has the best chance at a long and happy life when we’re proactive about their health. This means keeping up to date with vaccinations and dental care, as well as prioritizing parasite control and a healthy diet.

Our doctors work with you to make the best decisions for your pet’s good health during their annual check-up. It’s our hope that these exams are routine and trouble-free, but it’s a good way to catch any health concerns early, so don’t forget to book ahead.

In the event that your pet falls ill, Beaverton Crossroads is well-equipped to walk you through that journey. Our doctors rely on years of experience and knowledge to diagnose your pet’s issues and advise the best medical or surgical treatment. If necessary, we’ll refer your pet to a specialist for advanced diagnostics or specialty surgery.

Surgery

We offer a wide range of soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries in our modern, well-equipped surgical suite. Our Registered Veterinary Technicians constantly monitor your pet during anesthesia, using  pulse oximetry (blood oxygen level), ECG, blood pressure and heart rate monitors to ensure your pet remains stable. All pets are placed on IV fluids before anesthesia, which means extra fluids and emergency drugs can be administered quickly if needed. IV fluids also speed up your pet’s recovery and reduce the risk of kidney dysfunction afterward. We recommend pre-surgical blood screening for all patients but require it for pets older than seven, since certain medical conditions can increase the risk of complications. This bloodwork can be done in-clinic either beforehand or on surgery day.

Dentistry

Oral health plays a huge role in your pet’s length and quality of life. We offer a full range of dental services, including scaling and polishing. X-rays are taken before any dental procedure to help us identify problems not visible by oral exam. Tooth extractions are common, especially in aging pets, and in some cases we’ll recommend restorative fillings.

Don’t forget that, just like in humans, diet is a major factor in your pet’s oral health. Our staff can help you choose the best food and pet treats to keep their teeth in good shape.

Diagnostic Imaging

Radiology

Radiology is the cornerstone of diagnostic imaging and we do this quickly and efficiently with our digital x-ray system. You can see your pet’s x-ray images within minutes and the digital technology means we can transfer them quickly to referral centres if needed. Should you want a copy of the x-rays, we can provide them for a nominal fee.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a non-invasive way to see your pet’s internal system. It’s especially useful to confirm pregnancies but we also use ultrasounds to diagnose stones, examine the bladder wall and identify abdominal masses. While Beaverton Crossroads offers a basic level of ultrasonography, we can refer your pet to a board certified ultrasonographer in more challenging cases.

Laboratory Diagnostics

Our in-house laboratory is well-equipped to provide your pet’s results quickly, allowing our doctors to efficiently diagnose your pet’s health. The tests we provide include, but are not limited to, complete blood count (CBC), blood gases, serum chemistry, electrolytes, urinalysis, vaginal cytology, fecal analysis, heartworm testing and feline leukemia/FIV (Feline AIDS). For specialized testing, we work with laboratories across Canada and the US.
